Men's soccer gets on the board, but Clark wins in OT, 2-1

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Brandeis men's soccer team went to overtime for the second time in three games, but they fell to host Clark University, 2-1, just over six minutes into the first extra session. Rookie forward Matt Peabody (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) had his first collegiate goal for the Judges.

After a sluggish first half in which both teams combined for just five shots, the game opened up in the second half. The Cougars (3-1) opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when Mike Trobagis notched his fifth goal of the season on an assist from Tim Doenmez. The Judges (0-2-1) got an equalizer in the 71st minute when Peabody scored the team's first offensive goal of the season. Classmate Sam Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./No. Attleboro) got the assist. Brandeis ripped off four more shots in regulation, while junior Matt Lynch (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) made a save in the final minute to force the extra session.

In OT, Lynch made a fine save in the 95th minute, while Clark netminder Ryan King responded in kind against Ocel on the following counterattack. The Cougars were able to end the contest in the 97th minute when junior Kyle Klapp took a loose ball, split two defenders and beat a diving Lynch. Lynch finished with two saves for Brandeis, while Ryan had four for Clark.

The Judges play their home opener on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. when they take on WPI on Gordon Field.
