ATLANTA, Ga. (courtesy Emory sports information) -- The Brandeis men's soccer team dropped its third straight University Athletic Association (UAA) contest and fourth in a row overall today as the Judges fell to Emory University, 3-0. Brandeis falls to 4-8-1 (1-3 UAA), while the Eagles improve to 9-3-1 (1-2-1 UAA).
Emory's Zach Samuels scored in the 34th minute of play, after
stealing the ball at midfield and streaking down the far sideline.
The sophomore was able to get past a pair of defenders and put the
ball into the back corner of the net for his third goal of the
season.
The Eagles would add on another goal in the waning seconds of the
first half, as Michael Scannapieco scored his second goal of the
year off a pass from Nico Dalton. Co-captain Jake Graetz would cap
off the Emory scoring with his team-high sixth goal of the season
on a penalty kick in the 54th minute. The kick was set up by a foul
on a breakaway for Samuels.
Brandeis junior netminder Matt Lynch (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) made two saves in the losing effort, while EU sophomore Trenton Spindler recorded his fourth individual shutout of the year, making three saves during the contest, all in the first half. The Judges outshot the Eagles, 11-9, led by three shots by sophomore forward Alexander Farr (Nahant, Mass./St. Johns Prep), but the hosts put five of their shots on goal compared to two for the visitors.
Brandeis has two more non-conference contests at Springfield on Oct. 21 and at home against Lasell on Oct. 24, both at 7 p.m., before returning to UAA action on Oct. 30 when Washington University visits Gordon Field.
