Peabody's five points lead Brandeis men past Newbury, 6-1

WALTHAM, Mass. - Brandeis University rookie forward Matt Peabody (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) had two goal and an assist today, leading an offensive assault that saw the Judges outshoot the visiting Newbury College Nighthawks, 36-1, en route to a 6-1 victory on Gordon Field today.

Brandeis (2-4-1) got the first two shots of the game, hitting a post in the first minute, but Newbury (0-8) broke the ice in the fourth minute. Senior midfielder Hayato Iwahori (Tokyo, Japan/Meguro-Gakuin) took a blast from about 20 yards away on a feed from rookie Hector Aduboj (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/American School of Tegucigalpa) that went in for his first goal of the season.

The Judges answered with Peabody's first goal of the game and third of the season in the 20th minute. As senior midfielder Corey Bradley (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) led a break through the offensive zone, he found a streaking Peabody, who buried the equalizer. Brandeis broke the tie with 5:20 left in the first half. Rookie forward Sam Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./No. Attleboro) notched the first goal of his collegiate career when he punched home a feed from sophomore forward Noah Bass (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) following a Nighthawk turnover.

Brandeis poured in on in the second half. Sophomore Alexander Farr (Nahant, Mass./St. Johns Prep) took a Peabody through ball in the 52nd minute to score his third goal of the season. Peabody reclaimed the team scoring lead in the 55th minute. Newbury netminder William McNally (Grafton, Mass./Marian) stopped his initial attempt on a feed from Ocel, but Peabody knocked home the rebound to give him his first collegiate multi-goal game.

The Judges added goals from junior Steve Keuchkarian (Watertown, Mass./ Watertown) in the 74th minute and sophomore Ed Senibaldi (Everett, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hermon) in the 87th minute to close out the scoring.

In the net, for Newbury, McNally made 11 saves in just under 60 minutes, while rookie Steve Gratta (Hull, Mass./Hull) had four in relief. Brandeis's Matt Lynch (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) allowed the Nighthawk's lone goal in the first half, while rookie Blake Minchoff (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) was untested in his collegiate debut.

Brandeis opens University Athletic Association play this weekend when they head to Cleveland to take on Case Western Reserve University at 11 a.m. on Saturday
