RIVERDALE, N.Y. -- The Brandeis University men's soccer team outshot host NYU, 14-9, but the 21st-ranked Violets spoiled the Judges' upset bid in the 79th minute to earn a 1-0 win. Brandeis falls to 9-7-1, 1-5-1 in the UAA, while NYU earned the UAA title by finishing 11-2-4, 4-0-3 in the conference.

In a scoreless first half, the Judges owned an 8-6 shooting advantage, including 3-2 in shots on goal. NYU got the first good attempt when Kyle Green hit the crossbar in the 20th minute. Brandeis answered in the 29th minute when junior Alexander Farr's (Nahant, Mass./St. Johns Prep) attempt was cleared off the line by the Violet defense.

The first 35 minutes of the second half were evenly played, with the shots standing at 3-2 until NYU finally broke through. In the 79th minute, Green played a through-ball that was chased down by Adam Fein. Brandeis senior netminder Taylor Bracken (No. Andover, Mass./St. Johns Prep) chaged for the ball, but Fein was there first to chip the ball over Bracken for his first goal of the season. Brandeis turned up the pressure in the final 10 minutes, but NYU's Matt Stieve made saves on sophomore Lee Russo (Westford, Mass./Westford Acad.) and junior Theo Terris (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) in the game's waning minutes to preserve the shutout.

The Judges will await a possible ECAC tournament berth on Monday, which would be their first postseason action since winning the ECACs in 2006. Six of the Judges' seven losses have been one-goal affairs, including four of their five defeats in UAA action. NYU claims the UAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III  tournament.
