Russo, Ocel named to Capital One Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team
WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University men's soccer seniors Lee Russo of Westford, Mass.,  and Sam Ocel of North Attleboro, Mass.,  have been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District I® Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Ocel and Russo will now be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® honors, which will be announced on November 27.

Russo, a forward, leads the Judges in scoring this season with 12 goals and six assists for 30 points. He leads the University Athletic Association (UAA) in points and is tied the league lead in goals scored, while his six assists are tied for third. Earlier this season, Russo became the ninth player in Brandeis history with 30 career goals and the 11th with 75 career points when he scored the game-winning goal against UAA rival Washington University on Oct. 14. He currently ranks ninth on the career points list with 80 and eighth with 32 goals. An honorable-mention All-UAA selection as a junior, Russo is a three-time Academic All-Association selection and multiple Dean's List member. Russo boasts a 3.34 grade-point average as a politics major.

Ocel, a midfielder, is second on the Judges in scoring with nine goals and 26 points, while his eight assists are tops on the team and second in the UAA. Ocel has scored a UAA-high six game-winning goals this season, including against conference foes Case Western Reserve, Oct. 6, and Emory, Oct. 26. For his career, Ocel has 19 goals and 19 assists for 57 points, placing him 19th on the Judges' career list despite missing his sophomore season with an injury. Ocel, a second-team All-UAA and All-New England South selection last year, is a double major in biology and Health: Science, Society and Policy with a 3.41 grade-point average.

Overall this season, the Brandeis men's soccer team boasts a 15-2-1 record, 3-2-1 in the UAA. After starting the campaign at 11-0-1, the Judges set a school record with a 17-match unbeaten streak that dated to the 2011 campaign. Coach Mike Coven's squad is headed into its regular-season finale this weekend at New York University. The Judges, who are ranked 17th in the nation, take on the Violets at 1:30 p.m. at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y.

Voting for the Capital One Academic All-District® teams are conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. For Division III schools, District I consists of institutions from the stats of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.
