KEENE, N.H. (info taken from a Keene State press release) -- The 12th-ranked Brandeis University men's soccer team won its second one-goal contest in as many days today as the Judges upended Rowan University, 2-1, in the Xara Classic tournament at Keene State College. Brandeis moves to 2-0 on the season, while the Profs see their record evened at 1-1.

Junior transfer Michael Soboff (Framingham, Mass./Newton South) scored his second goal in as many games with the Judges, opening the scoring in the 20th minute. Shortly after entering the game, Soboff had an initial shot stopped buy Rowan senior goalkeeper Ryan Gill (West Deptford, N.J.). Soboff followed up, however, to put Brandeis in the lead. The Judges maintained their lead by holding the Profs without a shot in the first half. 

Senior Sam Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) had a chance to extend the Judges' lead eight minutes into the second half, but his point-blank shot was stopped by Gill. Minutes later, Soboff's bid just went wide of the far post.

Rowan had an opportunity to score on a free kick play, but freshman Vinny Ignatowicz (Toms River, N.J.) couldn't connect on a header at the right corner of the net.

Brandeis threatened to add to its lead with 7:20 to go, but Gill was up to the challenge, stopping the first shot by Soboff and getting his hand on the rebound by junior Tyler Savonen (Orleans, Mass./Nauset Regional).

The Judges finally added an important insurance goal with 3:46 to go.  Set up in front by Ocel, Feather made it 2-0. The goal was Feather's second of the season and the 18th of his career. Feather moved into 26th on Brandeis's career scoring list with 46 points and moving him within four points of becoming the 23rd player in school history to reach the half-century mark in scoring. 

Rowan cut the Judges' lead in half less than a minute later.  Ignatowicz headed the ball over to junior Christian Fountain (Fredicksburg, Va.), who one-timed it into the net.

The Judges outshot the Rowan 9-2 for the contest.  Junior Joe Graffy (Concord, N.H./Concord) finished the game with one save for Brandeis.  Gill stopped seven shots for Rowan. For their efforts, Soboff and Feather each earned All-Tournament honors.

The Judges return to the pitch on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. for their home opener against MIT.
