WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss tonight on Gordon Field, as the visiting Tufts University Jumbos scored with just 52 seconds left in the second overtime period to break a scoreless deadlock. With the loss, the Judges, ranked No. 14 in the D3Soccer.com national poll, fall to 3-2-1, while the Jumbos improve to the same mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The game's only goal came on a counter-attack. Tufts rookie Joseph Braun (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) carried down the left flank and turned into the box. 
• As Brandeis junior keeper Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) charged to cut off the line, Braun crossed the ball to junior Christian Zazzali (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), who buried it for his first goal of the season at 1:09:08.  

IN REGULATION

• Brandeis had two ball cleared off the line by the Jumbos.
• In the 36^th minute, junior Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) had a terrific look on a cross from rookie Jake Warren (Medway, Mass./Medway), but Tufts senior Gavin Becherano (Hollywood, Fla./Univ. School of Nova Southeastern) was there to keep it out of the net.
• In the 81^st minute, it was sophomore back Stephen DiPietto (Westbury, N.Y./Berkshire School), who fired from about 10 yards out. Tufts senior keeper Scott Greenwood (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) got his right hand on it, but it was still ticketed for the far post before Jumbo Sterling Wetherbie (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Phillips Exeter) cleared the line.
• Brandeis's Woodhouse made his best save in the 77^th minute after a Judge turnover when he used one hand to deflect a shot from Jumbo rookie Brett Rojas (Madison, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) just beyond the far post.

IN OVERTIME

• In the first OT session, DiPietto played a terrific through ball to get senior Mike Lynch (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) open for a breakaway, but Greenwood came off his line to snuff out Lynch's attempt.
• Tufts' Daniel Sullivan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep CDS) sent a bicycle kick high in the 99^th minute.
• Until the winning goal the second OT was relatively uneventful.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Shots were even for the two teams at 14. Brandeis had the edge in the first half (5-3) and in overtime (4-2), while Tufts owned a 9-5 advantage in the second half.
• The Jumbos had six corners to the Judges' 1.
• Greenwood had two saves, while Woodhouse had three.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• The game was the third OT contest in a row for the Judges, who are 0-2-1 in that stretch after winning their first three in a row.
• The loss was Brandeis's first at home to a non-conference opponent in their last 50 games. Since 2009, the Judges were 48-0-1 in their previous 49 games.
• Their last home out-of-conference defeat came Sept. 26, 2009.
