PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team went to overtime for the fifth match in a row, and despite playing much of the second half and both overtimes with 10 men, the Judges finished with a 1-1 draw at Carnegie Mellon in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams. The Judges (#23 in D3soccer.com Top 25) move to 3-3-2, while the Tartans (#18 in D3soccer.com Top 25) are now 7-1-1. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Brandeis opened the scoring in the 17^th minute on an interesting sequence.
• CMU sophomore goalkeeper Alec Lam was whistled for a foul in the box, earning the Judges a penalty kick.
• Brandeis senior midfielder Josh Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Academy) took the PK, and Lam atoned for his error by making the initial save.
• The rebound went to Brandeis rookie midfielder Dylan Hennessey (New York, N.Y./Northfield Mount Herman), who was also denied by Lam, but Ocel was there to clean up another rebound.
• The goal was Ocel's fourth of the season and 12^th of his career. He now has four goals in each of his three campaigns with the Judges.
• Brandeis held CMU to just one shot in the first 45 minutes to take the 1-0 lead at halftime.
• After the Judges took the first two shots of the second half, they owned a 6-1 advantage.
• The tide turned in the 50^th minute when Brandeis was forced to play a man down after drawing a red card. CMU went on to outshoot the Judges, 8-1, for the remainder of the half .
• The Tartans finally broke through in the 76^th minute when Brandeis junior Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) appeared to make a save on a free kick by CMU's Anthony Gulli, but the ball slipped out of Woodhouse's hands and over the line with just 14 minutes left in regulation.
• The Judges were able to settle in the rest of the way. Woodhouse denied CMU's Ryan Stinebaugh in the 96^th minute.
• Lam denied Brandeis senior Evan Jastremski's (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) shot in the 107^th minute to preserve the tie.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The final shot tally favored the home team, 12-8, with the Tartans getting 11 of their 12 shots with Brandeis a man down.
• CMU had five corners to Brandeis's three.
• Woodhouse finished with four saves, while Lam had six.
• Brandeis had 27 fouls to 17 for Carnegie Mellon, while the Judges were issued seven cards to three for the Tartans.

JUDGES HISTORY

• Brandeis is 0-3-2 in their last five games, all of which have gone into overtime.
• The five-straight OT games is a school record. It's the most in a season since five games with extra sessions in 2002 and one shy of the school record of six set in 1993.
