WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team outshot visiting Washington and Lee, 18-5, but the Generals were the only side to find the back of the net, scoring a goal in the 32nd minute to escape with a 1-0 road victory on Gordon Field tonight. The Judges fall to 1-1 on the season while W&L improves to 2-0.

Brandeis owned a 6-3 shot advantage in the first half, but the visitors broke the ice at the 31:56 mark. Off a restart deep in their own end, rookie defender Samuel Bass played a long ball into the Brandeis end of the field. Junior midfielder Jack Parham, who had recently entered the game, ran on to the ball and dribbled to the right side of the box before blasting a shot past Brandeis senior goalie Greg Irwin (Passaic, N.J./Seton Hall Prep). The goal was the first of the season for Parham.

Brandeis pressed the action in the second half when they outshot W&L, 12-2. Senior back Alex Walter (Londonderry, N.H./Lawrence Academy) twice went off target on headers off free kicks in the first three minutes of the stanza, while rookie Elias Norris (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) had a couple of good looks early on as well that went just off the frame.

W&L sophomore Michael Nyc made a pair of saves in the second half, denying Brandeis senior Max Breiter (Lincoln, Mass./Lawrence Academy) in the 67th minute and classmate Colin Panarra (Belmar, N.J./Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science) in the 70th on a corner kick. Irwin made a stellar save in the 86th minute against the Generals' Samuel Bass in the 86th minute, but the Judges were unable to take advantage of the momentum.

Brandeis returns to action with their first road game of the season on Wednesday evening at Clark University at 7 p.m.
