WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat today in the Judges' University Athletic Association (UAA) home opener against Case Western Reserve University. The Judges fall to 3-6-2 on the season with the loss, 0-1-1 in the UAA. The Spartans improve to 6-3-1, 1-1-0 UAA.

The Judges fell victim to a pair of goals from Case Western Reserve's leading scorer, Jacob Hall, who moved into second place in the UAA goals list with seven on the season. In the 25th minute, Hall took a through-ball from Austin Zeleznik and buried it under the charge of Brandeis junior Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) to open the scoring. Hall then added an insurance goal in the 89th minute, when Caleb Tan's chip over the defense released Hall one-on-one against Guthro.

Brandeis's best chance in the game for an equalizer came early in the second half, when senior Michael Burch (Glastonbury, Conn./Suffield Acad.) hit the left post on an attack after the Spartans turned the ball over in the 47th minute. CWRU keeper Jackson Callen also denied Brandeis junior Adam Kulick (Cambridge, Mass./Milton Acad.) in the 57th minute and senior Skyah Dias (Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case) in the 70th.

For the game, Case Western Reserve outshot Brandeis, 15-9, while the Judges had eight corner kicks to four for the Spartans. Guthro finished with five saves in the losing effort, while Kallen had three to record the clean sheet for the visitors. CWRU snapped an eight-match winless streak in the series.

Brandeis returns to action next weekend with their bi-annual UAA Midwest road trip. The Judges will play at the University of Chicago next Friday evening at 7:30 Central/8:30 Eastern, followed by a match at Washington University next Sunday at 1:30 Central/2:30 Eastern.
