CHICAGO, Ill. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team scored with less than three minutes remaining in regulation tonight to pick up their first University Athletic Association win of the season, a 1-0 upset of 16th-ranked University of Chicago on the road. With the win, the Judges improve to 4-6-2 on the season overall, 1-1-1 in the UAA. The Maroons fall to 8-4-1, 1-2-0 UAA.

Although Chicago controlled the majority of play, outshooting Brandeis 19-9 for the contest, the Judges took advantage of a costly UC mistake. After a Brandeis counter-attack, the Maroons tried to clear a ball, but ended up passing it back to Judge sophomore Max Horowitz (Swansea, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon). Facing nothing but the keeper and a wide-open goal, Horowitz bent a shot into the upper-right corner for his second goal of the season with 2:19 left in regulation. The Judges were able to see the game out from there.

Brandeis junior goalkeeper Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) made five saves in the contest – two in the first half and three in the second – to record his fourth shutout of the season. The Judges also had the benefit of two posts hit on UC shots. Brandeis sophomore Nick Dunstan-Maiese (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) also hit a post for the Judges.

The win was the first for Brandeis in Chicago since the 2002 season. The Judges were 0-7-1 in their last eight trips to the Windy City, and it is only the second time they have shut out the Maroons on their home field, with the first coming in the first-ever meeting there in 1988.

Brandeis will look for another upset on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 (1:30 Central), when they take on #9 Washington University in St. Louis.
