RIVERSIDE, N.Y. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team closed out its 2021 season on a high note this afternoon, with the Judges handing rival NYU a 1-0 defeat at Gaelic Park in Riverside. With the win, the Judges close their season with a 6-7-3 record, 3-2-2 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). NYU's regular season ends with a 10-5-1 mark, 4-3 UAA.

After Brandeis got off two early shots from senior Skylah Dias (Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case), the Judges got all the scoring they would need in the 10th minute off a corner kick. A pair of seniors connected, as Jared Panson (West Windsor, N.J./Pennington School) took the corner, and classmate Jake Davis (Cardiff, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) was on the other end to knock home his first career goal.

The Brandeis defense was up to the task after allowing the goal as they went on to earn their sixth shutout of the season. NYU went on to outshoot Brandeis, 14-4, for the rest of the game after the goal was scored. After the Judges went on top, Brandeis junior Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) made six of his seven saves to preserve the lead and earn the clean sheet. The Violets also had a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks, but they were unable to take advantage.

With the win, Brandeis ends their season on a 2-0-1 streak over their final three games and 3-1-1 over their last five, all against teams that were either nationally-ranked in Division III at the time or had been earlier in the season. The result was Brandeis's seventh 1-0 contest of the season, with the Judges going 3-4 in those games. Brandeis finishes in a tie for fourth place in the final UAA standings after Rochester defeated Emory in overtime.
