WALTHAM, Mass. – Five members of the Brandeis University men's soccer team have earned a spot on the 2021 All-University Athletic Association team. Senior midfielder Michael Burch of Glastonbury, Connecticut, was a second-team All-UAA selection, while first-year defender Andres Gonzalez of Doral, Florida, junior goalkeeper Aiden Guthro of Newburyport, Massachusetts, sophomore forward Max Horowitz of Swansea, Massachusetts, and senior defender Isaac Mukala of Malden, Massachusetts, were all honorable mention selections. This is the first All-UAA honor for any of the five players.

Burch was one of the top defensive midfielders in the conference this season. He produced two assists for the Judges, including on the game-winning, overtime goal in a 3-2 win over UAA foe Emory on Oct. 29th. His other assist, in a non-conference win over Clark on Sept. 29th, was also on a game-winning goal.

Gonzalez and Mukala anchored the Judges' back line that held opponents to 10.8 shots per game and an 0.94 goals-against average. Brandeis finished the season with 12 out of 16 games with zero or one goals allowed, including six shutouts. Both players also scored one goal this season, both in conference play. Gonzalez scrored the team's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with Carnegie Mellon on Oct. 2, while Mukala's goal in the 87th minute against Emory helped forced overtime in a game that the Judges went on to win, 3-2.

Guthro was a four-time UAA Defensive Player of the Week this season. He led the UAA with 79 saves during the season, while his .832 save percentage was third and his 0.94 goals-against average was sixth. Guthro posted six shutouts and played all 1,539 minutes in net for the Judges, also the top figure in the league in the regular season. He had at least seven saves in a game four times, including a career-high 14 in the team's win over Emory on Oct. 29.

Horowitz was Brandeis's leading scorer this season with two goals and two assists for six points. Both of his goals, on Sept. 25 against Bates and on Oct. 15 in a UAA contest against Chicago, were game-winners.

In head coach Gabe Margolis's fifth season, the Brandeis men's soccer team posted a 6-7-3 record, 3-2-2 in the UAA, good for fifth place. They went 2-0-1 in their final three games and 3-1-1 in their last five, all against teams that made the NCAA Division III tournament, picking up wins over Chicago, Emory and NYU.  They return 10 players who started at least six games this season.
