Shorthanded men fall at CWRU in UAA opener, 4-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Brandeis University men's soccer team saw a man sent off in the 20th minute and the Judges were unable to recover as they dropped a 4-0 decision to Case Western Reserve University in the University Athletic Association opener for both sides.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • CWRU opened the scoring in the 19th minute on a goal from Adrian Harkness, who one-timed home a cross from Lukas Dalakis. Harkness's second of the season proved to be the game-winning goal.
  • Just 92 seconds later, a Brandeis player was shown a second yellow card for the game, forcing the Judges to play a man down for the majority of the game.
  • The Spartans scored their second goal of the contest in the 26th minute, then added second-half goals in the 62nd and 73rd minutes to complete the scoring.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Case Western Reserve finished with an 18-4 advantage in shots, including 14-4 after the red card.
  • Brandeis senior Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) made three saves in the losing effort. CWRU's Jackson Kallen had just one stop to earn the clean sheet.
  • Brandeis were whistled for 13 fouls to nine for the Spartans, while the hosts had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • CWRU is 2-0-2 in the last four meetings between the two teams.

  • The Judges meet MIT on October 5 at 7:30 p.m. before playing their UAA home opener next Saturday at 11 a.m. against Carnegie Mellon in a Homecoming match.
