WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of 14th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University today in a University Athletic Association contest on Gordon Field.

- Brandeis, 4-4-2, 0-2-0 UAA.
- Carnegie Mellon, 9-1-1, 1-1-0 UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tartans owned a 5-4 shot advantage at halftime, but none of the nine attempts were on goal.
- In the second half, Brandeis nearly fell behind in the 64th minute, but senior Forrest Shimazu (Natick, Mass. / Needham) headed Ethan Vertal's ball over the crossbar with an empty net.
- Judge senior Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) made a diving save in the 74th minute to preserve the draw.
- Brandeis nearly got on the board a minute later when junior Khalil Winder (Miami, Fla. / Avon Old Farms (Conn.) saw his shot ticketed for the far post cleared off the line.
- The visitors finally broke the ice in 80th minute on a free kick by Josh Baugh that was headed home by Dante Mancini into the far-right corner.
- CMU's Liam Ryan denied Brandeis senior Sancho Maroto Tobias (Acton, Mass. / Lexington) on a header in the 85th minute, the Judges' last serious chance.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Carnegie Mellon finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots, including 4-3 in shots on goal.
- Corner kicks were even at 4-all, while the Tartans were whistled for 15 fouls to 12 for the Judges.
- Ryan made two saves for CMU to earn the win, while Guthro made two stops in the losing effort.
- Brandeis had not lost to Carnegie Mellon since 2013, going 5-0-2 in their last seven meetings.
