WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate transfer Bailey Cullen of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, and senior transfer Sancho Maroto Tobias of Acton, Massachusets, have been named the University Athletic Association Women's and Men's Soccer Offensive Players of the Week for their performances in non-conference competition over the past weekend.
Cullen, a graduate transfer from Notre Dame helped the Brandeis women defeat the University of Southern Maine, 5-3, on Sunday. October 23, with a hat trick. She scored goals in the 35th, 51st and 64th minutes, while also assisting a goal in the 7th minute that came 12 seconds after USM had taken a 1-0 lead. Cullen's hat trick was the first for a Brandeis woman since 2017. With the win, Brandeis snapped the Huskies' 12-match winning streak and the Judges' four-match losing skid.
Maroto Tobias, a senior transfer from UMass Lowell, scored both Brandeis goals in a 2-0 win over St. Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday, October 22. His goals in the 38th and 72nd minutes gave Maroto Tobias a brace in back-to-back games and moved him into a tie for third in the UAA in goals scored with seven. The Judges' win snapped SJC's seven-match winning streak and Brandeis's four-match losing streak..
This is the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor for either player.
Both Brandeis teams return to action on Friday with home UAA contests. The men (5-6-2) take on Washington University at 5 p.m., while the women (7-6-1) meet the Bears at 7:30.
Cullen is a 2018 graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School.
Maroto Tobias is a 2019 graduate of Lexington High School.
