WALTHAM, Mass. – Six members of the Brandeis University soccer teams have been recognized by the College Sports Communicators (formerly College Sports Information Directors Association or CoSIDA) as Academic All-District selections. As a result, they will be eligible for CSC Academic All-America honors.
For the Brandeis women, senior forward Juliette Carreiro of Upton, Massachusetts, was recognized for the third time with Academic All-District honors. A third-team Academic All-American in 2021, Carreiro was Brandeis's leading scorer on the field with nine goals and six assists for 24 points, while maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average as a double major in biology and psychology.
Senior Caroline Swan of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, earned Academic All-District honors for the third time. She is a three-time All-University Athletic Association selection at midfielder who finished with three goals and six assists for 12 points this season. Swan owns a 3.92 grade-point average as an economics and business double major.
And sophomore back Morgan Collins of Littleton, Massachusetts, was honored for the first time. She started 13 of the team's first 14 games and all 19 games as a first-year on the back line. Academically, she has a 3.97 grade point average as a biology major.
For the men, the three honorees were led by senior goalkeeper Aiden Guthro of Newburyport, Massachusetts, who was honored for the first time. Guthro led the University Athletic Association saves in each of the past two years and earned Division III National Player of the Week honors as a junior when he was honorable mention All-Association. In the classroom, he owns a 3.63 grade-point average as an interdisciplinary major in communications.
Senior back Forrest Shimazu of Natick, Massachusetts, earned his first Academic All-District honor. He earned his first career point this year, an assist against Wheaton College while earning honorable-mention All-UAA honors as a junior. Shimazu has a 3.75 grade-point average as an environmental studies major.
And junior midfielder Liam Carpenter-Shulman of Amherst, Massachusetts, was also recognized for the first time. He started all but four games this season and anchored the Judges' defensive midfield effort while starting eight of 16 contests as a sophomore. Carpenter-Shulman has a 3.94 grade-point average as a double major in economics and environmental studies.
The 2022 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic AllAmerica® honorees will be announced in early December.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic AllAmerica® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
