Zitelny, Diamond triple winners as Judges defeat Clark, 187-100

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Brandeis swimming and diving team closed out its 2014-15 dual meet season on Saturday at Clark University. The Judges and Cougars split on the day. The men finished the year on a three-meet winning streak, defeating Clark, 187-100. The women fell, 184-89. The Brandeis men went 5-7 in their third year under head coach Mike Kotch, while the women were 2-11.

Against Clark, a pair of underclassmen were involved in three wins each. SophomoreEdan Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) captured two individual events, the 100-yard backstroke (58.34 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (56.46 seconds) while swimming a 25.73 split in the fly as the Judges won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.52.

Also, rookie Zach Diamond (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Acad.) won a pair of races in different disciplines, taking the 200 fly in 2:05.00 and the 500 free in 5:01.73. Diamond swam the lead leg on the winning 200 free relay with a 23.49 split as the team won in 1:31.22.

Other individual winners for the Brandeis men were rookie Joey Barr (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield), who took the 1000 freestyle in 10:44.96; junior Brian Luk (Hong Kong/Northfield Mount Hermon) in the 50 free (21.98 seconds); rookie Sam Zucker (Omaha, Neb./Anderson) in the 1-meter diving with a score of 237.70; sophomore Cam Braz (Monson, Mass./Monson) in the 100 free in 50.54 seconds; and senior Max Fabian (Keene, N.H./Oak Meadow) in his final regular season race, the 200-yard Individual medley, with a time of 2:06.49.

For the women, there was one winner, as rookie Yi Sul Richter (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Vista Ridge) took the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:26.69.

Brandeis will travel to Emory University next week for the 2015 University Athletic Association Championships, starting on Feb. 11.
