Zitelny named UAA Swimmer of the Week for Oct. 13

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior Tamir Zitelny of Syosset, New York, has been named the University Athletic Association Male Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Oct. 13th.

This is the third career UAA weekly honor for Zitelny. He was recognized for posting three individual and one relay win in the Judges' season-opening meet with Roger Williams University. He took the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 24.52 seconds, winning by more than a second. Zitelny had a 0.41 second margin of victory in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 22.49 seconds, and wrapped it up with a 1.56 second win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.80 seconds. Zitelny also anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay, joined by junior Daniel Wohl of Chapel Hill, North Carolina senior Matthew Arcemont of Santa Ana, California,  and junior Marcelo Ohno-Machado of San Diego, California, to post a time of 1:28.95, winning by 0.6 seconds.

The Judges were edged out in the meet against RWU by three points, falling 141.5-138-5. They will return to action this weekend at the Hartwick Relays in Oneonta, New York.

Zitelny is a 2016 graduate of Syosset High School.
