INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Brandeis University sophomore Sam Dienstag (Willmette, Illinois/New Trier) placed 30th today in the 500-yard freestyle event at the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at IUPUI in Indianapolis.

Dienstag owned the 33rd-best time in Division III this season and was seeded 27th after withdrawals. He placed fifth in his heat, posting a time of 4:32.58. He was two seconds off his seed time and a spot in the top 16, which would have advanced him to this evening's finals.

Dienstag will next compete at the championships in the 1,650-yard freestyle on Saturday, March 19, when he will be the 11th seed. That event is contested on time, not in prelims and finals. Dienstag will be in the final morning heat before the top eight seeds compete in the evening session.

"Sam finished his race feeling good, not that tired," said head coach Nicole Carter. "He is in great shape mentally, so we are excited for Saturday's race."
