WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University junior Sam Dienstag of Wilmette, Illinois, has been selected to the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships for the second-straight year. The championships will be held in Greensboro, North Carolina, at Greensboro Aquatic Center from March 15-18.
Dienstag will compete in the 200-, 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle for the second year in a row. The school-record holder in all three events, Dienstag is seeded fourth in the nation in the 1,650 with a time of 15:25.93 and seventh in the 500 with a time of 4:26.13. He was an automatic qualifier in those events as one of the top 16 times this season. He will also compete in the 200 as the 23rd seed with a time of 1:39.59.
As a sophomore last year, Dienstag finished 30th in the 500 and 19th in the 1,650, just missing out on All-America status. He did earn All-America honors as a first-year, when the College Swim Coaches Association of America named the top 16 times in each event as All-Americans in the absence of a championship meet because of COVID-19.
Earlier this season, Dienstag became Brandeis's first All-University Athletic Association selection in men's swimming and diving since 2005 with his third-place finish in the 1,650. He is now looking to be the Judges' first All-American honored in the pool since that year.
