White, Miller lead Judges to 9-0 victory over Connecticut College

MIDDLEBURY, V.T. – The 30th-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team split their matches on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Connecticut College 9-0 and falling 8-1 to No. 1 ranked Middlebury College.  After the weekend, the Judges' record stands at 6-4. 

Against Middleburry, the Judges' only win came from senior Nick White (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) who defeated rookie Zach Bruchmiller (San Antonio, T.X/Saint Mary's Hall), 6-4, 6-4, in the number two spot.  In doubles action the 17th ranked doubles pair of senior Simon Miller (Plantation, Fla./Plantation) and White put up a fight before falling to senior Michael Malhame (Douglaston, N.Y./Townsend Harris) and junior Derrick Angle (Troy, N.Y./LaSalle Instit.), 8-5, in the first position. 

In their 9-0 victory over Connecticut College, the Judges got off to a fast start in doubles with an 8-5 victory from Miller and White in the first spot.  Rookie Tomi Cubrilo (Luxembourg/Athenee de Luxembourg) and sophomore Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) won their match, 9-7, in the second spot and sophomomore Josh Jordan (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) and senior Ezra Bernstein (Buffalo, NY/City Honors School) defeated their opponents, 8-2, in the third seed to send Brandeis into singles action 3-0.

In singles, Miller and Yovanoff were victorious in the first two spots, winning their matches handedly.  Sophomore Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y./ Syosset) battled sophomore George King (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) in the third spot to a super tie-breaker round before winning 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5). Berstein, Jordan and senior Steven Nieman (Forest Hills, N.Y./ Benjamin Cardozo) won their sets handily to give the Judges the win.

Brandeis is in action again against Babson  on March 22 at Brandeis.

Middlebury's next match is against Glendale College on March 23.

Connecticut College will face off against Tufts University on March 31.
