CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (courtesy MIT sports information) – The 30th-ranked Brandeis Judges used five victories in singles competition to overcome a 2-1 deficit and beat No. 20 MIT's men's tennis team on Thursday afternoon. Brandeis beat the Engineers 6-3 at DuPont tennis courts in non-conference action.

MIT leaped out to a lead, taking two out of three doubles points. Edwin Zhang and Matthew Skalak won 8-5 at second doubles and Brian Oldfield and Andrew Cooper matched their score at third. The last doubles match to finish went to Brandeis, as seniors Simon Miller (Plantation, Fla./Plantation) and Nick White (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) beat Curtis Wu and Larry Pang 8-6.

Miller was the only singles player to go down for Brandeis, as he lost at first singles to Zhang 6-4, 6-1. White got the better of Pang again at second singles by a 7-5, 6-0 score. The other four singles matches all went three sets. Sophomore Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) defeated Oldfield 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 at the third singles spot, while senior Ezra Bernstein (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) added a victory over Skalak. Sophomore  Josh Jordan (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) defeated Andrew Cooper 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 and senior Steven Nieman (Forest Hills, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo)took care of Vlad Firiou, who came on to play sixth singles but fell 10-0 in a super tiebreaker.

MIT (7-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) continues their streak of four games in four days when they host Bowdoin on Friday at 3:30 PM. Brandeis improves to 9-5 and will play at Trinity (Conn.) on Sunday at 1:00.
