White honored by UAA for performance this season

WALTHAM, Mass. – Nick White of Wellesley, Mass. was recognized by the University Athletic Association (UAA) for his performance at the 2011 UAA Men's Tennis Championships hosted by Brandeis University. White was named second team All-Association first position. The Judges (10-11) closed out the season ranked 22nd in the nation and sixth in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III poll. 

      White, a senior, was finished the season ranked  9th in the Northeast, going 14-11 on the season in singles action.  From the second position, White was 9-3, including a seven-match winning streak. Early in the season, Brandeis faced Middlebury College, ranked No. 1 in the nation.  White pulled out the only Brandeis victory of the match, defeating Zach Bruchmiller, 6-4, 6-4. On April 2, the Judges topped No. 21 Bates College, 6-3. White took a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory in the second position over Rob Crampton, ranked 12th in the Northeast, to boost his squad to a win. 

      In the UAA tournament White won all three of his first position singles matches.  On the first day of competition he defeated Alex Nemerov of Carnegie Mellon University in three sets, dropping the first set 4-6 only to battle back with 6-2, 6-0 wins in the second and third sets.  On day two, White topped Boris Brovbanin of the University of Rochester 6-3, 6-1 contributing to a Judges win over the Yellowjackets.  In the fifth place match between Brandeis and Case Western Reserve University, White grabbed Brandeis' only singles win in the match, going 7-5, 6-1 over Sean Carr.

      White is a 2007 graduate of Wellesley High School. He is the son of Paul and Mimi White, Wellesley, Mass.
