WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Both Brandeis University men's tennis teams advanced to the second round of the 2011 Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England regional this weekend at Williams College.

Juniors Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) earned their berth in the second round with an 8-3 win over the duo of Hudson and Monk from Wesleyan University. Rookies Hunter Bielfield (Farmington Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day School) and Alec Siegel (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) picked up an 8-5 victory over Doyley and Murdock from Babson in their collegiate debut.

In the second round, Bielfield and Siegel continued their success, knocking off Middlebury College's Farah and Fitzgibbons in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4), to advance to the quarterfinals. Their run to the semifinals was narrowly halted by the duo of Sun and Micheli of host Williams College, who had defeated the second-seeded team in the second round. The Judges dropped an 8-6 decision with a late break of serve.

Yovanoff and Milo were unable to get past the second round, dropping an 8-4 decision to the seeded team of Bettles and Berg of Bates College.

The Judges weren't as successful in singles action, dropping all their first matches. The best showing was turned in by Yovanoff, who fell 6-4, 6-4 against eighth-seeded Oscar Pena of Bowdoin College. Bielfield gave second-seeded Alec Parower of Middlebury a run in the first set before bowing, 7-5, 6-0. Milo faced fourth seed Matt Bettles of Bates College, dropping a 6-2, 6-4 match. Siegel also fell to a player from coach Ben Lamanna's alma mater, losing 6-2, 6-4 to Pierre Planche.
