Jordan and Milo reach finals of Midd. Invite doubles A flight

WALTHAM, Mass. – A pair of Brandeis University men's tennis senior captains led the Judges with the squad's top performance at the 2012 Middlebury Invitational last weekend to open the 2012-13 season. Josh Jordan (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional), and Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) reached the finals of the 'A' flight doubles with three-straight wins.

Jordan and Milo opened the tournament with an 8-2 win over Nik Telkedzhiev and Rob Jacobson of Tufts University before downing Alex Johnston and Palmer Campbell of host Middlebury, 8-4. In the semifinals, Jordan and Milo survived an 8-6 match against the Skidmore tandem of Oliver Loutsenko and Danny Knight of Skidmore. In the championship round against 2011-12 All-Americans Matt Bettles and Rob Crampton of Bates College, the Judges finally met their match, falling, 8-2. Crampton and Bettles also met in the championship match of the 'A' singles flight.  

Jordan was also the only Brandeis player to advance in singles action, defeating Dan Freeman of Vassar in the opening round, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), before bowing to Johnston of Middlebury, 6-0, 6-0, in 'A' singles quarterfinals.

Two other doubles tandems won in the 'B' flight opening round. Sophomore Ben Fine (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown School) and rookie Robert Xie (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./The Bishop's School) defeated Jordan Kemp and Cam Smith of Trinity College, 9-7, before falling to Austin Blau and Mark Westerfield of Tufts. Senior David Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and sophomore Michael Secular (Bronx, N.Y./Plant, Fla.) were 8-5 victors over Daniel Carpenter and Aaron Segel of Trinity before dropping an 8-2 decision to another Tufts duo, Jay Glickman and Brian Tan.
