MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Brandeis men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at 14th-ranked Middlebury College late on Saturday evening. The Judges fall to 3-4 this season, with all four defeats coming at the hands of nationally-ranked squads.
Brandeis earned their only win of the match at the top doubles spot. Seniors Josh Jordan (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) and Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y,/Syosset) defeated Alex Johnston and Spence Lunghino, 8-6. The Judges just missed a chance to take a lead into singles action, as rookie Mitch Krems (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Century Acad.) and sophomore Alec Siegel (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) suffered an 8-6 defeat at the hands of Teddy Fitzgibbons and Andrew Lebovitz. Middlebury took five out of six singles matches in straight sets. Milo and Johnson at No. 1 were the only players to go three sets, with the Middlebury player prevailing in a third-set super-tiebreaker.
The Judges were to have played Oneonta State as well at Middlebury, but the match was cancelled. Brandeis returns to action next Friday against #12 Bates College, kicking off a five-match homestand.
