ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Brandeis University men's tennis team ended its regular season on a positive note today, defeating the University of Rochester, 7-2, in the consolation bracket of the 2014 University Athletic Association tournament. 

Brandeis got off to a fine start for the first time in the tournament, winning two of three doubles matches. At No. 1, rookie Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Palmetto) and sophomore Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken) took an 8-4 decision. After dropping an 8-6 match at No. 3, the Judges took the lead into singles thanks to junior Alec Siegel (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and rookie Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood), who reached a tiebreaker before winning, 9-8 (7-2). 

In singles action, junior Michael Secular (Bronx, N.Y./Plant, Fla.) cruised par Sam Leeman at No. 6, 6-2, 6-2, while Granoff rolled over Ben Shapiro at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3, to bring the Judges within a point of victory. The final four matches went three sets, where Brandeis had success as they did in their 5-4 loss to Chicago in the consolation semifinals. After winning all three three-set matches yesterday, they won three of four after dropping the first set to secure the victory.

Lubarsky clinched the victory at No. 3 with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win against Julian Danko. At No. 4, rookie Ryan Bunis (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) ended his season on a 10-match winning streak with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Boris Borovcanin. The last six of those wins, and seven of eight, were in three sets, while six times during his streak Bunis rallied from a set down, including five of the last six. Siegel earned the Judges' final point, also winning a tiebreaker, defeating Ian Baranowski, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

The Judges, ranked 30th in Division III, place seventh in the UAA with an 11-10 record this season. UR, seeded sixth, finishes eighth with a mark of 13-7.
