CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Brandeis rookie Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) competed in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Individual tournament today.

Granoff faced sophomore Jake Humphreys of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in his first-ever NCAA tournament match. In a contest that featured several long games and numerous breaks of serve, Humphreys prevailed, 6-3, 6-4. Granoff closed his season with a 14-9 record, 8-3 since taking over the No. 1 singles spot on the team.

"Brian had a great freshman season, with great improvement throughout the year, including today," said the Judges' ninth-year head coach Ben Lamanna. "There's no doubt that this experience will propel him to grow more. He's got an incredible fire in his belly and a will to be great. We're looking forward to his sophomore season!"
