#19 men's tennis charges past Colby-Sawyer, 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team delivered a 9-0 victory over visiting Colby-Sawyer College today in the Gosman Athletic Center. The Judges, ranked No. 19 nationally in Division III, improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 1-6.

The Judges opened with a doubles sweep. Juniors Jackson Kogan (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Windward School) and Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) opened with an 8-1 win at No. 2, while rookies Nikhil Das (Smithfield, R.I. / Moses Brown School) and Rajan Vohra (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) took an 8-3 decision at No. 3. The most competitive match of the day came at No. 1 doubles, where CSC's top team of Gustav Jigrup and Nick Mathieu charged out to a 7-2 lead on Brandeis sophomore David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and rookie Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J./Phillips Andover). The Judge duo rallied to win the final six games of the match, taking the tiebreaker 7-3 for an 8-7 victory.

In singles play, the Judges opened with a pair of two-set wins at the top three spots. Aizenberg opened with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Mathieu at No. 2, followed by Kogan's 6-2, 6-4, win over Jigrup at No. 1. Ng completed the first flight of victories at No. 3, 6-4, 6-0.

The teams played a single eight-game pro set at the final three slots, with the Judges winning 8-1 at all three spots. Sophomore Benjamin Wolfe (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) won at No. 4, junior Ethan Saal (Scarsdale, N.Y./Abraham Joshua Heschel School) was a victor at No. 5, and junior Zach Cihlar (Phoenix, Ariz. / Brophy College Prep.) rounded out the match at No. 6.

The Judges return to action tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against Trinity (Connecticut) College. Colby-Sawyer is at Wheaton (Massachusetts) College next Saturday, March 31.
