#8 men's tennis opens spring season with 8-1 win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – The eighth-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team opened its spring season today with an indoors win over Division II cross-town rival Bentley University, 8-1. The Judges are now 1-0 on the season, the Falcons fall to 4-1.

Brandeis rolled to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Senior David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and junior Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J./Phillips Andover Academy) opened with an 8-3 win at #1. Sophomore Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc./James Madison Memorial) and junior Rajan Vohra (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore)  cruised at #3, 8-1. Sophomores Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) and Adam Tzeng (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle) completed the sweep at #2, 8-4.

In singles action, Coramutla picked up a 6-1, 6-4, win at #2 to open the scoring, and Aizenberg earned the clinching win at the top spot, 6-0, 6-2.

At the bottom of the lineup, Chen ground out a 7-5, 6-2 win at #4, while Vohra was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at #5. Rookie Simon Kauppila (Chesterfield, Mo. / Marquette H.S.) won his dual-match debut at #6, 6-2, 6-2.

Bentley's lone win came in the only three-set match of the day, with Alex Novins avenging a doubles loss to Tzeng, 0-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the super-tiebreaker.

The Judges return to action on February 21st when they meet UAA rival and ninth-ranked Washington University in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota.
