CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --- The Brandeis University men's tennis senior tandem of Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) and Adam Tzeng (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle) added a new piece of hardware to their collection over the weekend, winning the title at the 2021 MIT Invitational.

The Brandeis duo defended their top seed, starting out with an easy 8-0 win over a duo from Amherst in the opening round. They bested a team from host MIT in the second round, 8-4, then dispatched another Engineer squad in the semifinals by the same score. In the finals, they faced the tandem of Isaac Gorelik and Paris Pentousis from Tufts and outlasted the Jumbo pair, 8-7, winning the tiebreaker by a 7-4 score.

Other first-round doubles winners for the Judges included the team of senior Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc./James Madison Memorial) and rookie Colin Fox (Winnetka, Ill. / New Trier), who won, 8-6, over an MIT squad, before falling to Gorelik and Pentousis, 8-5. Junior Hunter Levine (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) and rookie Chen Liang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai Pinghe School) knocked off a team from Tufts, 8-5, in the opening round before falling to the second seeds from Amherst, 8-3.

In singles action, only two Brandeis players advanced past the first round. Junior Simon Kauppila (Chesterfield, Mo. / Marquette H.S.) won his first-round match, 6-0, 6-1, over Ostrow from Amherst, before falling to eventual champion Gorelik of Tufts. Chen defeated Hayden of Tufts, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, but lost to MIT's Antov, 6-3, 6-4. Antov reached the semifinals of the tournament.

This tournament wraps up the team's fall schedule. They will return to action in February with a match against Franklin Pierce College.
