Men's tennis sweeps Franklin Pierce, 9-0

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team posted their second-straight sweep of the season today, defeating Division II Franklin Pierce, 9-0, at the Weymouth Tennis Club. With the win, the Judges improve to 2-0, while the Ravens fall to 3-1.

After dropping two of three doubles matches to FPU last season, the Judges came out with a doubles sweep today. First-year Colin Fox (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and sophomore Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman School) opened with an 8-1 win at #2, while the Judges' #1 and #3 teams each posted 8-4 wins to give Brandeis a 3-0 lead.

In singles action, junior Hunter Levine (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) opened the scoring at #5 with a 6-1, 6-3, victory. Walters provided the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2, win at #4. Fox added a 6-3, 6-0, victory at #3.

The Judges won a pair of tiebreakers to clinch points at the top two spots in the order. Senior Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) took his third set in a super-tiebreaker to rally from a set down, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5, at #2, while classmate Adam Tzeng (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle) won at #1, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Sophomore Aaron Basye (Mission Viejo, Calif. / Tesoro) rounded out the victory at #6, 6-3, 6-4.

The Judges return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. against Division I Merrimack College at the Longfellow Club in Natick. It is the Judges' third-straight out-of-division matchup.
