Judges Drop Match to #4 Ranked Tufts

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis men's tennis team hosted Tufts University for a matchup of ITA-ranked teams today. The #31 ranked Judges fought hard but fell to the #4 ranked Jumbos 7-2.

 

TEAM RECORDS AND RANKINGS

  • Brandeis: 10-6, 31st in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
  • Tufts: 14-0, 4th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After dropping the first two doubles matches 8-5 and 8-4, respectively, the doubles team of junior Chen Liang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai Pinghe School) and first-year Alex Merson (Palisades Park, N.J. / Tenafly) fought their opponents into a tiebreaker for the match.
  • Liang and Merson eventually fell 8-7 (7-3).
  • In singles action, three out of the six matches went to a third set.
  • The most competitive match of the day was Liang battling at #5 singles.
  • Liang won the first set in a tiebreaker before losing the second set in a tiebreaker.
  • He finally dropped the third set losing 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-5), 10-5.
  • The Judges won matches at #4 and #6 singles in straight sets.
  • At #4, Merson won his match 6-4, 6-1.
  • At #6, senior Hunter Levine (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) won his match 6-4, 6-3.
