Medford, Mass.--The Brandeis University men's indoor track team had several strong performances at the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday, February 5.
Rookie Vincent Asante (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Arts Imagination and Inquiry) placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.05. His finish was just two one hundredths of a second behind the first place finisher from St. Rose College and just eight one hundredths of a second away from the NCAA provisional qualifying time. Asante also placed 13th in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 23.83. His teammate, junior Charlie Pino (Attleboro, Mass./Perry Meridian) came in sixth in that event with a time of 23.63.
Junior Chris Brown (No. Chlemsford, Mass./Catholic Memorial School) finished second in the mile run. His time of 4:19.00 is four seconds away from the NCAA provisional qualifying time. Senior Paul Norton (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) finished just behind him in third place, with a time of 4:20.60. Senior Kerwin Vega (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) had a strong race in his 3,000-meter run, where he finished fourth witha time of 8:58.30.
Also racing well were sophomore Mik Kern (Groton, N.Y./Groton), who came in sixth in the 600-meters (1:24.90); senior Dan Anastos (Salem, Mass./Peabody Veterans), who placed 11th in the mile (4:26.85); and senior Ben Bray (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) who finished 11th in the 800-meters (2:00.99).
The Judges next meet is Saturday, February 12 at the Boston University Valentine's Classic.
