Senior Mik Kern Leads the Way for Brandeis at the Terrier Classic

BOSTON, Mass.- Over the weekend on January 25th and 26th, the Brandeis Men's and Women's Track and Field squads competed at the non-scoring Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.   Each squad featured a few top performances in the meet that hosted Division I, II, and III schools.

On the men's side, senior distance runner Mik Kern (Groton, N.Y./ Groton) led the way in the mile run coming in 54th overall with a time of 4:18.09, lowering his personal best and moving into second place in the UAA behind teammate Alex Kramer (No. Andover, Mass./ No. Andover). Rookie sprinter Josh Hacunda (Hopkinton, Mass./ Hopkinton) finished outside the top 100 in the 400-meter dash but his time of 51.77 seconds vaulted him into sixth in the UAA. Classmate Brian Louis (Elmont, N.Y./ Bishop Ford Central Catholic) was the men's top performer in the field, coming in 21st in the triple jump with a distance of 13.16 meters (43 feet, 2 ¼ inches). His performance moved him into second in the UAA.

On the women's side, three distance runners led the way for the Judges. Rookie Kelsey Whitaker (Kingston, Mass./ Notre Dame Acad.) had Brandeis' top finish in the 1,000-meter race as she came in 12th overall and second among other Division III runners with a time of 3:04.80. Juniors Victoria Sanford (Andover, N.Y./ Andover) and Amelia Lundkvist (So. Portland, Maine/ Cheverus) also had great days in the 1-mile run. Sanford finished 32nd overall with a time of 5:06.67 good for fourth among Division III competitors and moved into third in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with that performance. Lundkvist was 54th overall with a time of 5:13.45 that was 10th for all Division III runners and put her in fifth in the UAA. Senior sprinter Casey McGown (Clinton, Mass./ Clinton) was the Judges' top sprinter, finishing 61st overall in the 400-meter dash that placed her ninth out of Division III runners and moved her into 10th place in the UAA. In the field, senior Kim Farrington (Shirley, Mass./ Ayer) jumped 10.61 meters (34 feet, 9 ¾ inches) in the triple jump for the best performance of all Division III competitors.

Both teams return to action on Saturday February 2nd at the Tufts Stampede beginning at 10:00 a.m.
