Mens track defeats Babson and Lasell

WESTON, Mass. – The Brandeis University outdoor track and field teams competed in a tri-meet with local rivals from Babson and Lasell today at Weston High School. The Brandeis men defeated Babson, 75.5 to 66.5, with Lasell finishing with seven. On the women's side, the Judges edged the Beavers, 61-60, with Lasell taking 25 points.

The Judges had two multiple winners on the day, with each taking a field and and a running event. Graduate student and heptathlon All-American Jack Allan (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) captured the long jump with a distance of 7.07 meters (23 feet, 2 ½ inches), just shy of his career best set last week. He also took the 200-meter dash handily, with a time of 22.74 seconds, just about three-quarters of a second ahead of his next competitor. Rookie Parker Jones (Westbury, N.Y. / Packer Collegiate Institute) took the triple jump with a distance of 11.71 meters (38-5) for the men, while also winning the 100-meter dash with a late charge in a time of 11.74 seconds, edging two others in a dead heat at 11.78 seconds.

Brandeis earned wins in four other field events i. Senior Tanner Richards (Northwood, N.H. / Coe Brown Northwood Acad.) won the javelin with a throw of 46.32 meters (152-00), just under a foot shy of a personal best. First-year triple jumper Jordan Lapierre (Holland, Mass. / Tantasqua Regional) won it for the women in 9.25 meters (30-4 ¼). Senior Breylen Ammen (Lincoln, Mass. / Lincoln Sudbury) captured the pole vault with a height of 3.65 meters (11-11 ¾). Sophomore Thomas Vandalovsky (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) rounded out the field winners in the shot put with a heave of 12.78 meters (41-11 ¼).

In the running events, the Judges added five more wins. Brandeis swept the 1500-meter runs. Senior Andrea Bolduc (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) won for the women in 4:57.39, ahead of junior Natalie Hattan (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) in 4:58.26. Senior Josh Lombardo (Westbrook, Maine / Westbrook) won the for the men in 4:11.46, ahead of rookie Walter Tebbets (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst-Pelham Regional), who ran 4:13.46. Sophomore Yahni Lapa (West Newton, Mass. / Newton North) captured the women's 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:09.32. Junior Devin Hiltunen (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) won the 200-meter dash in 26.43 seconds ahead of rookie teammate Ianna Gilbert (Queens, N.Y. / Young Women's Leadership School of Queens). The quartet of Lapa, Gilbert, sophomore Victoria Morrongiello (Staten Island, N.Y. / Susan E. Wagner) and Hiltunen won the final event of the day for the women, the 4x400-meter relay, with a time of 4:14.76.

The Judges return to action next week in a road meet at UMass Dartmouth.
