Track and field tunes up for UAAs at Wheaton

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University track and field teams competed on Saturday at the Wheaton College Pre-Postseason Invitational in Norton, Massachusetts, in a tuneup for next weekend's UAA Championships.

TOP MEN'S PERFORMERS 

  • There were multiple first-place finishes in distance events. Sophomore Spencer Lee (Great Neck, N.Y. / William A. Shine Great Neck South) finished first in the mile, setting a personal record with a time of 4:35.00. Junior Willem Goff (Pelham, Mass./Amherst Regional) finished first in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:38.74. This was just shy of his personal record at 2:37.15.

  • In the 3000-meter run, there were three top-ten finishes and two personal records. Sophomore Dashiell Janicki (New York, N.Y. / HS for Math Science and Engineering at City College) finished 3rd, setting a personal record with a time of 9:19.04. Sophomore Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair ) finished 4th with a time of 9:22.73. Sophomore Daniel Frost (Hanover, N.H. / Hanover) finished 9th, setting a personal record with a time of 9:25.66.

  • First-year TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North ) had a career day, setting three personal records. In the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries, he set a personal record with a time of 9.16 seconds, earning him 6th place and a spot in the finals. In the finals, he finished 8th with a time of 9.37 seconds. He also set a personal record in the long jump, finishing 12th with a distance of 5.38 meters. His final personal record was set in the shot put, where he finished 13th with a distance of 10.81 meters.

  • Junior Ori Slotky (Closter, N.J. / Northern Valley Regional) also had a phenomenal day, impressing in three different events. In the triple jump, he finished 2nd with a distance of 12.68 meters. In the long jump, he finished 5th with a distance of 5.92 meters. In the 60-meter dash, he finished 17th, setting a personal record with a time of 7.71 seconds.

TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMERS

  • Junior Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y. / Bronx H.S. of Science) had a terrific showing in three different events. She finished first in the pole vault, setting a team season-high of 3.35 meters. She also finished first in the long jump, with a distance of 5.10 meters. Finally, she finished 14th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.44 seconds.

  • First-year Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn. / Lawrence Academy) also performed well in three different events. She finished first in the triple jump, with a distance of 10.91 meters. She finished third in the long jump with a distance of 4.90 meters. She also set a personal record in the 200-meter dash, finishing 13th with a time of 27.94 seconds.

  • The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Liz Korn, senior Yahni Lapa, senior Devin Hiltunen, and sophomore Hannah Bohbot-Dridi finished first with a time of 4:06.85, narrowly missing the team season-high of 4:06.76 set in the Valentine's Invitational.

  • Multiple judges set personal records in the 1000-meter run. Senior Bridget Pickard (Westwood, Mass. / Westwood) finished second with a time of 3:10.39, setting a team season-best as well. Junior Adah Anderson (Cumberland, R.I. / Cumberland) finished 5th with a time of 3:31.56.
