Men's track takes fifth at Tufts Snowflake Classic

LOWELL, Mass. -- The Brandeis University track and field teams had a strong showing in the Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday. The men finished sixth place out of 19 and the women finished fifth out of 20.

  • Sophomore Danny Krigman (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) had a fantastic day. He finished second in the preliminary 100-meter dash with a qualifying time of 11.59 seconds. He followed that up by one-upping himself with a first-place finish, in 11.39 seconds. Krigman also finished strong in the 200-meter dash with a third-place finish in 23.47 seconds.

  • First-years Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C. / Woodside Priory School) and Leo Schiappa (Wareham, Mass. / Old Rochester Regional High School) also performed well in the 100-meter dash. Yue was 7th in the preliminary round with a time of 11.88 seconds and set a personal record along the way. He stayed consistent in the finals, finishing seventh again with a time of 11.93 seconds. Schiappa set a personal record as well, finishing 18th with a time of 12.15 seconds.

  • First-year TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) had another great performance in the 1500-meter run, finishing on top with a time of 4:06.81. This was 6.57 seconds off the personal record he set a week ago.

  • The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Ori Slotky (Closter, N.J. / Northern Valley Regional), first-year TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North High School), junior Young Wang (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton), and junior Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Vocational Tech) finished third with a time of 3:35.62.
