WALTHAM, Mass. -- This Saturday, the Brandeis University track and field teams competed at the UMASS Pre Championship Invitational in Amherst, Mass. The Judges faced a host of Division I teams in a non-scoring event.
TOP MEN'S PERFORMERS
- First-year TJ Showstead (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North) had himself a career day, setting three personal records. In the discus throw, he finished 15th with a distance of 30.30 meters. In the long jump, he placed 13th with a distance of 5.69 meters. In the 100-meter dash, he finished 19th with a time of 12.19 seconds.
- The 1500-meter run was a very successful event for the Judges, with two more personal records set. Junior Willem Goff (Pelham, Mass. / Amherst Regional) achieved 33rd with a time of 4:07.01, and sophomore Spencer Lee (Great Neck, N.Y. / William A. Shine Great Neck South) placed 48th at 4:18.60.
- The 200-meter dash had a similar fate to the 1500-meter run. Sophomore Danny Krigman (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) ranked 12th with a time of 22.98, while sophomore Jordan Colon (Devens, Mass. / Bromfield School) ranked 18th with a time of 23.42. Each of these were personal records as well.
- Krigman also set a career high in the 100-meter dash, finishing fifth with a time of 11.21 seconds. First-year Matthew Yue (Vancouver, B.C. / Woodside Priory School) followed this performance with a strong personal record as well, placing eighth with a time of 11.44 seconds.
TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMERS
- Senior Devin Hiltunen (Quincy, MA / North Quincy) had a great comeback performance, finishing second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.39. This was the team's best performance in the 200 this season.
- Junior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) had a great performance in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. In the hurdles, she placed sixth with a time of 15.54 seconds. In the dash, she placed fifth with a time of 26.87.
- The 5000-meter run was the Judges' most impressive event, with three career performances. Sophomore Zada Forde (Amherst, Mass. / Amherst Regional) placed ninth with a time of 18:39.20. Junior Katie Lyon (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands College Park) followed this with a 12th place finish in 19:07.26, and first-year Katriona Briggs (Menlo Park, Calif. / Menlo-Atherton High School) finished just behind her in 19:11.93. Each of these scores were personal records.
- The 800-meter run saw similar success to the 5000-meter run. First-year Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga) ranked 19th with a time of 2:27.01, while junior Adah Anderson (Cumberland, R.I. / Cumberland) ranked 27th in 2:43.37, each also setting career highs in the process.
