WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University first-year TJ Carleo of Newburyport, Massachusetts, will be the final Judge competing in the 2022-23 school year, having qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Carleo will represent the Judges in the 800-meter run,

Carleo won a pair of 800-meter titles this spring. At the University Athletic Association championships on April 23, Carleo ran 1:51.98, winning by 0.22 seconds over Arthur Santoro of Washington University. At the New England Division III Championships on May 6, Carleo ran a school-record 1:50.21 to defeat Michael Olson of Plymouth State by 0.26 seconds. Carleo's time lowered a mark that had stood since 1999 that was set by three-time national champion and six-time All-American Geoff Getz '99.

Carleo is the first Brandeis runner to compete in the 800-meters at the NCAA Championships outdoors since Getz in 1999. Ryan Parker '06 was a three-time qualifier indoors in the 800.

Carleo is ranked 17th headed into the meet. He is second among three New England runners and third among five from the UAA. He will run in the preliminaries at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, with the finals at 2:50 the next afternoon. Carleo will run in lane 5 in the first of three heats. The top two from each heat, plus the top two fastest times among the rest of the field will advance to the finals.

The 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Rochester, New York, and hosted by St. John Fisher University.
