Carleo finishes 18th in 800m at NCAA Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In his first career NCAA Championship race, Brandeis University first-year TJ Carleo of Newburyport, Massachusetts, placed 18th overall in the 800-meter run at the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, today.

Seeded 17th headed into the meet, Carleo started in lane 5 of the first heat. He ran his first 400 meter lap in 53.98, putting him in sixth place in the heat. After dropping to 56.77 in the second lap, Carleo finished with a time of 1:50.76, seventh in the heat and 19th overall, well off the time 1:49.68 that was needed to qualify for tomorrow's finals.

As a first-year, Carleo will have several more chances to qualify and score at the NCAA Championships.
