Garvey top finisher for men's x-country at Conn. College

WATERFORD, Conn. – Rookie Emily Bryson continued her fantastic season and sophomore Liam Garvey had his first appearance as the Judges' top runner this year as the Brandeis University cross country teams previewed the NCAA Division III New England regional this weekend at the Connecticut College Invitational at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn.

NOTES

  • The Judges ran without their top finisher in the previous three races of the season, sophomore Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional).
  • Sophomore Liam Garvey (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield), running in just  his second meet of the season had his best-ever finish as the Judges' top runner. He had never been higher than third on the squad in his career. Garvey ran more than a minute faster than his previous best at Conn. College with a time of 25:56.2.
  • Classmate Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) was the team's second runner for his second race in a row in 26:09.4, just under a minute better than his 2014 time at this meet.
  • Junior captain Quinton Hoey (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) made his season debut in the third slot and ran 26:21.2, within six seconds of his previous performances on the course.

The Judges host the 2015 University Athletic Association championships on October 31 at Franklin Park in Boston. The women's race is at 11:00 a.m., the men's at 12 noon.
