ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Sophomore pitcher Natalie Volpe
(Southington, Conn.) went 4-4 with two doubles and two RBI at the
plate and struck out seven in a complete game in the circle to lead
the Brandeis University softball team to a 6-2 University Athletic
Association victory over Case Western Reserve University at the
Seminole County Softball Complex in Altamonte Springs, Fla.,
today.
Volpe led off with a double and scored the first run in the Judges'
two-run second inning, snapping a 1-1 tie. She also doubled home
senior 1B Bri Smith (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the fifth as Brandeis
(2-2, 1-1 UAA) opened up a 4-1 lead. Brandeis added single runs in
the sixth and seventh, as senior Elissa Glucksman LF (Stamford,
Conn.) walked and scored without a hit in the sixth and Volpe
plated Smith with an RBI single in the seventh.
Case (4-3, 0-3 UAA) scored a single run in the first as sophomore
Lauren Seeds doubled to lead off the game and scored on classmate
Amanda Bell's RBI single. The Spartans added another run in the
seventh on Brandeis's only error of the game.
