WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University softball pitchers Caroline Miller (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Harriton) and Casey Ducinski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) combined to allow hits in just four out of 14 innings today as the Judges swept a softball doubleheader visiting Wellesley College, 6-1 and 6-2, on Marcus Field. With the wins, the Judges climb back to the .500 mark at 8-8, while the Blue fall to 4-8 in their first action of the season in New England.

In the opener, Miller tossed her sixth complete game of the season, allowing just four hits and one earned run. She struck out six and walked one to improve to 4-4 on the season. Miller kept the Blue hitless until the fifth inning, when three straight singles produced their only run.

Ducinski's numbers were similar in game two, when she allowed three hits, but gave up two runs. She also fanned six, a season-high, while walking only one. Ducinski allowed just one hit through the first six frames before Wellesley touched her for two runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Offensively, the Judges were led by rookie 1B Amanda Genovese (North Haven, Conn./North Haven). The leadoff hitter went 5-for-7 over the two contests with three RBI and two runs scored. She also stole two bases, giving her a team-high nine on the season.

Senior centerfielder Lauren Porcaro (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) also had a fine day out of the cleanup slot. Porcaro went 3-for-5 with a walk, three RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases. She had two of Brandeis's three extra-base hits on the day, with an RBI double in game one and a two-run home run to open the scoring in the first inning of game two. It was her second round-tripper of the season.

For Wellesley, only one player had hits in both games, junior pitcher Lauren Goldfarb (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva). Goldfarb, who suffered the loss in the opener, also broke up Miller's no-hit bid in the sixth inning and scored the Blue's only run of the game. She also had a pinch RBI double in the seventh of game two. Junior RF Kimberly Cabral (Temecula, Cal./Chaparral) also doubled and had an RBI in the second game, driving in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Brandeis returns to action next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. against Lasell College, while Wellesley opens NEWMAC play on Friday afternoon at MIT at 3 p.m.
