WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University first-year infielder Liana Moss of Agoura Hills, Calif., was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year earlier today.

Moss was also a first-team All-Association selection, as was junior outfielder Amanda Genovese of North Haven, Conn. Junior Anya Kamber of Sammamish, Wash., was named as a second-team infielder.

Moss led the Judges in home runs with seven, extra base hits with 19, and a .770 slugging percentage. She batted .410 in 30 games, good for third on the team, had 28 RBIs, and added nine doubles and three triples. Moss finished in the top 10 in the UAA in batting average, slugging percentage, triples and home runs. Moss is the second Judge to be named the UAA Rookie of the Year in three years. Genovese earned the honor in 2012.

Genovese led Brandeis with a .455 batting average, .510 on base percentage, and 27 stolen bases. She has a Brandeis-record 106 steals through three seasons, reaching the century mark during an April 3 game against Endicott College. She was a first-team All-Association selection last year as well, when she was also named a first-team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Genovese was named to the UAA All-Tournament team in March, after batting .433 in conference play.

Kamber earned UAA honors for the first time in her career after finishing second on the team with a .427 batting average. She was the only Brandeis player to appear in every game this year, and led the squad in hits, doubles and RBIs, knocking in 37 runs in 37 games. She was fifth in the UAA in both batting average and total bases (83).

Overall, the Brandeis softball team won its last six games and finished the regular season with a 21-16 record. The Judges went 3-5 in conference play, including wins over then-#18 Washington University, and the team's first-ever victory over Emory, who was ninth in the country at the time. Coach Jessica Johnson's squad will find out on Monday whether they have qualified for their eighth-straight postseason appearance. The Judges have played in the ECAC New England Tournament each of the last three seasons.

Moss is a 2013 graduate of Agoura High School. She is the daughter of Ken and Laura Moss, Agoura Hills, Calif.

Genovese is a 2011 graduate of North Haven High School. She is the daughter of Mark and Caren Genovese, North Haven, Conn.

Kamber is a 2011 graduate of Skyline High School. She is the daughter of Peter and Tracey Kamber, Sammamish, Wash.
