Softball places three on All-UAA team

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University softball team has placed three members on the 2015 All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team, all seniors and all second-team selections. Outfielder Amanda Genovese of North Haven, Conn., was selected for the fourth time in her career, shortstop Anya Kamber of Sammamish, Wash., for the second and catcher Cori Coleman of Burr Ridge, Ill., for the first time.

Genovese, who was a second-team All-UAA selection and Rookie of the Year in 2012, was a first-teamer in 2013 and 2014 before earning her fourth honor this season. Despite missing the second half of the season with an injury, Genovese still led the team with 10 stolen bases, raising her career total to 118, most in school history and 15th all-time in NCAA Division III play. She also batted .432 and finished her career as a .439 hitter, third in Brandeis history. Genovese also ranks in the top five in hits (189, 2nd), runs scored (126, 4th), triples (6, T4th) and on-base percentage (.484, 5th). She was an NFCA First-Team All-American as a sophomore when she stole a school-record 57 bases, leading all NCAA Divisions.

Kamber was a second-team All-UAA selection – and first-team All-American utility player - as a junior. This year, she played in 31 of the team's 32 contests and hit .413, highest among the Judges' regulars and seventh-best in the UAA. Kamber also led the team with 45 hits, 25 runs scored and 11 doubles, while finishing second on the squad with 21 RBI. She also hit three home runs on the season. Having started 156 games in her career, Kamber is Brandeis's all-time leader in at-bats, with 524, and she is fourth with 186 hits. She is also eighth in career doubles (36) and RBI (96). She will have a chance to move up on all those lists this weekend when the Judges host the ECAC Division III New England tournament.

Coleman earned first All-Association honor by hitting a career-best.376, second among regulars, with 22 runs scored and 17 RBI, both third on the team. She tied for second on the team with four home runs and third with six doubles. She is also a terrific defensive catcher, with just two errors in 153 chances this season for a .987 fielding percentage. For her career, Coleman is second on Brandeis's career lists with a .985 fielding percentage, 889 total chances and 797 putouts. She is a .322 carer hitter who has started 151 games and played 154 in her career.

The Judges finished the 2015 regular season with an 18-14 record under interim coach Brittany Grimm '12. They qualified for the ECAC Division III New England tournament as the top seed and a bye. The Judges will host the semifinal and final round this weekend, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning on Marcus Field.

Genovese is a 2011 graduate of North Haven High School.

Kamber is a 2011 graduate of Skyline High School.
