Softball drops series finale to #8 Case Western Reserve, 8-0

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Brandeis University softball team suffered a University Athletic Association series sweep at the hands of 8th-ranked Case Western Reserve University today, as the Judges lost an 8-0 contest in five innings.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis: 11-8, 6-6 UAA.
  • CWRU: 23-2, 9-2 UAA, ranked #8 in Division III by National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • For the third-straight game, the Judges were shut out on three or fewer hits.
  • Spartan starter Lexi Miskey was in firm control, striking out eight of the 10 batters she faced, with only sophomore catcher Tristan Boyer (Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) reaching on a third-inning single.
  • Rookies Bells Burdenski (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) and Elle Ehrlich (Falls Church, Va / Meridian) singled in the fourth and fifth off CWRU reliever Kylie Hosey, but neither advanced past first base.
  • The hosts got all the scoring they would need in the second inning, scoring five times.
  • The first seven batters reached base against Brandeis junior Alex Cohen (West Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School), with runs coming in on a bases-loaded walk, a single by SS KaiLi Gross, a wild pitch, and a two-run triple by CF Kela Jagoda.
  • The Spartans added two more runs in the third and one in the fifth, walking off on a single by Gross.
  • Cohen fell to 3-3 in the circle with the loss, while Miskey improved to 15-0.
  • Five of nine CWRU starters had multiple hits, paced by a 3-3 performance with a double by Elizabeth Berry.
