WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's
basketball team scored 29 points off 25 Western New England College
turnovers as the Judges never trailed en route to a 63-38 victory
over the Golden Bears in Auerbach Arena today. Brandeis, ranked No.
4 in the nation by d3hoops.com and No. 8 by the WBCA, closes out
its second-straight perfect fall semester with the win.
Brandeis (6-0) opened the game by holding Western New England (5-3)
without a field goal over the first six minutes, scoring the first
12 points of the contest. The Judges held the visitors to just
five-of-22 shooting (22.7%) in the first half, while forcing 13
turnovers before the break to take a 29-12 lead into the locker
room. Four different Brandeis players had more than five points in
the first half, while no WNEC player scored more than four points.
The Judges opened the second half with an 11-2 run over the first
3:49 to open a 40-14 lead and were never challenged again.
Junior forward Caitlin Malcolm (Windsor Locks, Conn.) led all
players with 18 points, hitting five-of-13 from the floor,
including her only 3-point try, and all seven free throws. She also
topped the Judges with seven rebounds and had a game-high five
steals. Senior center Christine Clancy (Yarmouth, Maine) had 15
points on six-of-10 from the floor with a trifecta and a pair of
free throws. She also grabbed six boards, second on the squad.
Sophomore guard Jaime Capra (Old Bridge, N.J.) rounded out the
double-figure scorers for Brandeis with 10 points, while senior
guard Amanda DeMartino (Toms River, N.J.) had a game- and
season-high nine assists. The Brandeis front-court players
outscored WNEC, 37-17.
WNEC was paced by a double-double from junior forward Vicky Taylor
(Feeding Hills, Mass.), who had 11 points and a game-high 12
rebounds (four offensive). Sophomore guard Jennifer Dabrowski
(Plainville, Conn.) scored six points, while junior forward Sharon
Simoncelli (Litchfield, Conn.) added six rebounds.
Both teams are off until January, when the Judges open at Endicott
College on Jan. 3, while WNEC hosts Westfield State College on Jan.
