Capra, Malcolm lead women's hoops past WPI, 78-60

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Brandeis women's basketball team, ranked No. 4 in the nation by d3hoops.com and No. 8 by the WBCA, won its fifth straight game of the season and eighth in a row dating back to last season, by defeating host WPI, 78-60.

Brandeis (5-0) was paced by sophomore Jaime Capra (Old Bridge, N.J.), who scored a season-high 24 points on 10-of-18 from the floor, including two-of-six from 3-point range. Junior forward Caitlin Malcolm (Windsor Locks, Conn.) added 18 points behind seven-of-nine shooting, including her only trifecta attempt. Malcolm also led the squad with five rebounds, tying for game-high honors. One other Brandeis player reached double figures, junior guard Alison Chase (Farmington, Conn.), who tallied 13 points on four-of-six from the floor and was perfect from the line, hitting all four shots. Senior guard Amanda DeMartino (Toms River, N.J.) led Brandeis with four assists, while Malcolm and Capra each had three steals and a block.

WPI (3-4) had two players score in double figures, rookie Michelle Perry (Pelham, N.H.) with 12 points off the bench on a six-for-six shooting performance, and senior guard Ashley Zelucky (Troy, N.Y.) with 10 points on four-of-11. Rookie Natalie Deschene (Presque Isle, Maine) matched Malcolm for game-high honors with five rebounds, while senior Sarah Doyon (Nashua, N.H.) had five assists to lead all players.

Brandeis is next in action on Dec. 10 against Western New England College at 1:00 p.m. in Waltham, while WPI faces Emerson in Boston the same day at 4:00 p.m.
